 The Eternal God
Back to Full Blog

The God of the Bible is eternal.  In fact, His name, Yahweh (I AM), reflects this truth.  One of the questions asked by skeptics is "who created God".  The answer is simply "no one".  No one made God, that is why He is God, because He depends on nobody.  He is altogether sufficient in Himself.  In contrast, everything that is created, has a dependency on other things for sustenance and survival.  A plant cannot grow without soil, sun, and water.  Humans and animals cannot live without food and water.  Yahweh needs none of these elements.

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty" (Revelation 1:8).  The whole of Scripture attests to the eternal nature of God.  So, I have selected this verse because it really captures the essential picture of this truth of the eternal God.  He is, He was, and will be.  He is God, has always been God, and will always be God.  He is the beginning, the first, and He is the end, the last.  Think on it, before there was a universe, before He spoke it into existence, He was.  And when this universe dissolves to give way the the new creation, He will be.

I enjoy what you have written and can understand how you have come to these conclusions. However, Christians that claim to have a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ" are either fooling themselves or we have a Father and Savior in Heaven who genuinely cares about us. If he has no need for me, for my love, yet requires me to pay tribute to Him (to love them), then he is none other than Terrell Owens in disguise. I happen to put it all on the line for my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ because they care for me personally. They care. They love. They need.

I am glad you enjoy what I have written. However, I must respectfully disagree that They need us. They chose us, not our of a need to have fellowship. He made us out of love, and not a love that needs, but that chooses. When Adam and Eve disobeyed, God did not need to initiate a redemptive purpose. He chose by His love to send Jesus Christ to die for our sin so we can be reconciled to the Father. Christ is our high priest who offered His own blood once and for all. He didn't need, He chose. And He "requires tribute" because His is worthy. He made us to love us, again, not out of need, but choice. How much more then, is He worthy of our praises. Anyone of us who demand praise is arrogent and conceited because we are not worthy. But the God who is above all and before all; and the God who loves all and offers salvation to all through His Son is worthy of all honor, all glory, all worship, and all praise.
